An old Sunday school adage says, "God will give one of three answers to your prayer: yes, no, or wait." Since His answers rarely come with the speed of a snap, it sure feels like His answer is "wait" every time.
And when we want to have immediate direction, patience doesn't come easily.
But what if direction is not God's focus? What if the dilemma is mainly meant to draw us further into faith, into trust, into fellowship with Him? If I'm fixated on a choice, then my prayers become saturated with pleas for speed. If I'm instead concentrating on the Lord who has the answer, my problem is replaced with peace and a restful waiting.
Still, it's not easy.
As Indigo says in The Princess Bride, "I hate wait."
